What is a domain name?

 

A domain name is simply a uniquely identifiable address which people refer to in order to access someone's website. When a user types in this address into an internet browser, it finds the IP address that it relates to and then loads the website from there.

Why do I need one?

How much do they cost?

 

Domain name prices start from just £3.40 per year, including all applicable taxes. However depending on which type of domain i.e. .co.uk/.com etc you get, the prices can vary. You can order one right now from this site - simply search for one in the box to the right of this text.

 As you can see from this table, our renewal prices are the same as our registration prices. Some companies charge more for this, we do not. Also, some domain name have a minimum registration period, so a .co.uk domain name as an example, would cost you £7.00 to register (£3.50 x 2). It should also be noted that all domain name transfers include an additional one year registration (except for the .uk domains which only cost £1 for the transfer).

This is a commonly asked question. If you register the domain name it is registered in your name and you own it and have all the rights to it.
